Janet McCalman
Janet McCalman is a life member and has been a State and National Conference delegate for the Melbourne FEA. She is a member of the Education and Youth Affairs Policy Committee.
She is convenor of Labor Academy Victoria, which brings speakers to branch members online, and produces publications and election guides for members such as 100+ Reasons to Vote Labor, compiled by members. The Labor Academy partners with Labor’s official think-tank, the Chifley Research Centre
She is the author of four award-winning social histories, starting with Struggletown which was launched by Premier John Cain in the Richmond Library in 1984. As a public commentator, she has written on education (school and university), health, housing and democracy.
In 2020 she co-edited the Emma Dawson What happens next: reconstructing Australia after COVID 19, which pre-figured the agenda for the Albanese government.
